乾隆朝丰盛繁荣为一时之绝，皇帝却立志抗心希古，任其所尚，故而仿古之器常追三代，兼备时风。此件掐丝珐琅提梁卣取材自西周青铜器，器形基本完整模仿西周青铜提梁卣，隆盖，兽耳，深腹鼓胀，重心低垂，高圈足略微外撇，盖、颈、腹、足皆出戟，类似的器型参见《西清续鉴乙篇卷八》之‘周仲驹卣’。纹饰化用青铜器的兽纹，但已是当时的风格。腹部开光主要纹饰为牛首，牛角眼鼻十分具象拟生，大不同于三代铜器纹饰的抽象风格；牛首两旁再饰以狮首，三代铜器中尚无先例，且全用双线技法精勾细勒，线条均匀。腹部宝蓝色地上满铺掐丝雷纹，圈足满缀掐丝卷云纹。此器铜胎质地厚重坚实，露胎处和出戟皆鎏金，全器釉彩鲜明，光华卓绝，古而不拙也。
