此件茶器施褐釉，外壁挂釉不及底，釉厚，上薄下厚，故口沿一圈呈赭褐色，底部淌釉有垂釉痕。口部与腹部衔接处釉呈黄褐色，以下渐为黑色，釉面上有呈放射状的黄褐色条纹，似兔毛，俗称“兔毫斑”。 兔毫盏在茶事一道中备受珍视。《茶录》载：“茶色白，宜黑盏，建阳所造者绀黑纹如兔毫，其坯微厚，糒之久，热难冷，最为妥用，出他处者皆不及也。”
