This is an incredible folk piece from Burma made entirely of Lacquer mixed with ash. Probably Mon, and probably very early, and almost certainly no later than 17/18th century, this Buddha could easily be 14/15th century, as the only other very thickly formed Buddha of this type I have encountered which was made in the same way as this one had a 15thC date assigned to it, and this was a period in which the Mon culture flourished. 9" tall
