A PAIR OF CHINESE INSCRIBED HARDWOOD SIDE CHAIRSQING DYNASTY (1644-1912), 18TH/19TH CENTURYWith curved, round section toprails fitted to round section posts, a curved backsplat plain to the front but with large characters inscribed to the reverse reading 'Shishan Yegong Ci' (Yegong Shrine at Shishan). The timber with highly figured grain including multiple 'ghost face' knots with a shimmering, deep golden colour under a remnant brown lacquer finish, possibly huanghuali.Each chair approximately 106.5cm high, 53cm wide, 42cm deepPROVENANCE:Purchased in Hong Kong, 1970s.
