His father, Ivan Yakovlevich, belonged to an old, but completely seedy Lithuanian noble family. He was an educated man: he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of Kiev University. The artist’s mother, Neonila Nikolaevna, nee Makhnovich, the daughter of a priest, was orphaned early and married very young [4]. The Narbut family had seven children: five sons and two daughters [5]. The younger brother of George - Vladimir - became a famous poet.Even as a child, Narbut cut out the "protruding" - paper figures that served as a decoration of the national dwelling. Since 1896 he studied at the Glukhov Gymnasium, where he became interested in book illustrations, I. Bilibin's illustrations for children's books, and became interested in heraldry. George received his primary art education on his own. So, for example, he copied texts in old fonts, painted screensavers, initial letters and frames, and also carefully copied the engravings of the German Bible [4] [5].
