A WEDGWOOD BLACK BASALT BUST OF MERCURY 19th century, probaby after a model by John Flaxman On a circular socle, separately impressed WEDGWOOD and MERCURY to the reverse 44cm high, 26.5cm wide, 28cm deep PROVENANCE: The Estate of the late Hylton Grimmer品相报告: Apparently in good original condition consistent with age and handling. There is some slight roughness to the very tip of the right-hand wing to the helmet suggesting the possibililty it has been lightly bumped (although photos of other examples seem to show similar uneveness). Inspection under UV light reveals no fluorescence in this area, nor anywhere else on the figure. Green felt has been applied to the underside of the foot-ring precluding inspection of the interior of the socle. The opinions expressed in the condition reports are a guide only and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Prospective buyers are encouraged to seek further information or request additional images during our pre-sale period where Leonard Joel staff are available for advice. Please note condition reports can be amended during the pre-sale period, so we strongly suggest any interested bidders check the published condition report available on the website before the auction commences. Leonard Joel makes no guarantee of the originality of mechanical or applied components. Absence of reference to such modifications does not imply that a lot is free from modifications.
