Gillis Neyts often integrated views of the Belgian Meuse valley into his wooded mountain landscapes. The present work, executed in the fine and detailed manner typical of Neyts, offers a view of a river valley with a town thought to be Dinant. The collegiate church of Notre Dame with its characteristic onion dome is also found in other landscape paintings by the artist. The work is registered with the RKD (Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie), The Hague, under no. 235267 as a work attributed to Gillis Neyts. Jh.). - Süddeutsche Privatsammlung, Gillis Neyts hat häufig Ansichten des belgischen Maastales in seine bewaldeten Gebirgslandschaften integriert. Vorliegende Landschaft, die in der für Neyts typischen fein und detaillierten Manier ausgeführt ist, gibt den Blick frei auf ein Flußtal mit einer Stadt, bei der es sich um Dinant handeln dürfte. Die Stiftskirche Notre Dame mit ihrem charakteristischen Zwiebelturm findet sich auch in weiteren Landschaftsgemälden des Künstlers. Das Gemälde ist im RKD (Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie), Den Haag, unter der Nr. 235267 als ein Werk zugeschrieben an Gillis Neyts registriert. Die Abbildung zeigt das Bild noch mit anderer Figurenstaffage vor der Abnahme der Übermalungen.
