“嵌金银”由“错金银”工艺衍生，所谓“错金银”的“错”，指的是“磨错”，及镶嵌体与被镶嵌体在镶嵌完成后统一打磨，让二者处于同一平面。而嵌金银则是需要提前塑造出镶嵌体的造型，在嵌入被镶嵌体后不经磨错，保留原有凸起。从工艺流程上讲，嵌金银的拥有更高的工艺难度。日本镶嵌体没有凸起的错金和鋄金被统称为“平金象嵌”，而镶嵌体有明显突起的嵌金银工艺则被称为“高肉象嵌”。
