Chinese Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Box Figures Garden Wan Background Design 19th C Lovely antique Chinese cinnabar box from the Qing Dynasty. Cinnabar lacquer over a wood box. Decorated with two figures in a garden. Note the three different background designs on the top surface. Fine Wan design on the sides. It is about 6 1/4 inches long, 4 inches wide and 1 3/4 inches tall. It weighs about 200 grams. The box has some minor imperfections, mainly on the inner rim and on the top edge corner of the base - please see the pictures. This box has an interesting provenance. Ites from the estate of Agnes Newton Keith (1901-1982). Ms. Keith was an American author. Best known for her three autobriographical accounts of life in North Borneo before, during and after the Second World War.
