She is known as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China and is often depicted playing a flute.China, 19th to early 20th century. The beauty standing, playing her instrument, dressed in long flowing robes falling in voluminous folds, tied at the waist with a sash suspending a jade ornament, wearing a billowing scarf, the hair tied in a high chignon with some of the long locks cascading down the back. The face finely rendered with downcast eyes below short bangs. The translucent stone of fine lavender and apple-green hues suffused with milky mottling.Provenance: British trade.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, few nicks, and small losses.
