A LAVENDER AND APPLE-GREEN JADEITE FIGURE OF A BEAUTY PLAYING THE FLUTE, LATE QING DYNASTY TO REPUBLIC PERIODExpert’s note: The present lot depicts Yang Guifei, the beloved consort of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang during his later years. She is known as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China and is often depicted playing a flute.China, 19th to early 20th century. The beauty standing, playing her instrument, dressed in long flowing robes falling in voluminous folds, tied at the waist with a sash suspending a jade ornament, wearing a billowing scarf, the hair tied in a high chignon with some of the long locks cascading down the back. The face finely rendered with downcast eyes below short bangs. The translucent stone of fine lavender and apple-green hues suffused with milky mottling.Provenance: British trade.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, few nicks, and small losses. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures.
