A LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF THE INFANT BUDDHA, MING DYNASTYChina, 1368-1644. Well carved standing on a red lacquered lotus base, both hands folded in anjali mudra with bangles around the wrists and ankles, the square face with downcast eyes above red lips, the hair surmounted by a red ushnisha.Provenance: Gisal SA, Montreux, Switzerland, 2007. Swiss private collection, acquired from the above. A copy of a certificate of origin, stating that the present lot originates from Anhui Province, China, and dating it to the late Ming dynasty, and a letter from Gisal SA, dated 6 December 2007, apany this lot.Condition: Good condition with old wear, natural age cracks, the lacquer with expected craquelure and some flaking, minor losses, two pierced apertures for mounting to the base, and remnants of gilt.
