1979年，盛珊珊進入上海戲劇學院進修美術；1982年去美國，在蒙荷利約克學院研讀西方繪畫，在麻塞諸塞州大學繼續進修碩士學位；1985年，盛珊珊返回中國，傾注全力探索抽象藝術和色彩。 她沿著絲綢之路，在敦煌石窟研究佛教繪畫，從古代文化遺址和沙漠廢墟上尋找靈感，利用傳統與現代、東方與西方之間的差異來豐富她的藝術風格。
