AN ARCHAISTIC PARCEL GILT COPPER REPOUSSÉ CENSER AND COVERChina, style of the Tang dynasty – dating to the late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. The rectangular parcel-gilt censer supported by four capriole legs, each decorated with a beast mask, the body adorned with archaistic patterns, band of leaves, and zoomorphic elements, the rim with a key-fret band, and flanked by two zoomorphic beast mask handles. The pierced cover also with archaistic elements and surmounted by a finial in the shape of a flower. Condition: Very good condition with traces of wear and age, abrasions to the gilt, and with areas of malachite, azurite, and cuprite encrustations. Provenance: Estate of an Austrian collector, the collection was assembled in the 1980s – 1990s through purchases at Galerie Zacke and other specialized galleries in Vienna.
