A PAINTING OF SCHOLARS AND ATTENDANTS, c. 1920sChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). Ink and colors on silk. Depicting a scenic landscape with two scholars, one riding a horse and the other carrying a filled basket, accompanied by four attendant boys, two of whom are carrying a large scholar’s rock and the other two bags filled with scrolls, the setting featuring only one tree, which adds a sense of tranquility to the scene. Inscribed to the upper left: Qingxi Qizi (probably the artist’s name), painted at Hujiang Villa, and sealed. Mounted to a silk brocade frame and framed in a vintage gilt-lacquered wooden frame, behind glass.Condition: Good condition with minor wear, soiling, moldy spots, and minimal creasing.
