A CANTON ENAMEL ‘PARADISE BIRD’ SNUFF BOTTLE, MID-QING DYNASTY
China, Guangzhou, 1735-1800. Of flattened baluster form, rising from a flared foot to a short waisted neck surmounted by a flat rim, the mouth and foot rim of copper. Finely painted in bright enamels on light blue ground, one side depicting a bird of paradise with a flamboyant blue crest and long tail feathers perched on a stem with blossoming prunus flowers, the other, with a bird perched on a rock amid further blossoms. All between colorful lappet bands above the foot and below the rim.


Provenance:
From a private collection in Pennsylvania, USA, assembled since 1996.

Condition:
Good condition with minor old wear and manufacturing irregularities, tiny nicks here and there. The background color with a consistent hue of ancient verdigris, except for the base which still shows the original white color of the enamel. The bottle has a fired clear lacquer coating, applied in the 20th century to protect the enamels from wear and fading.

清代中期廣州琺瑯天堂鳥鼻煙壺

中國，廣州，1735-1800年。直頸，豐肩，收腹，足外撇。壺口足部包銅，淺藍色地上以明亮的琺瑯精細繪製，一面描繪了一隻天堂鳥，艷麗的藍色羽冠和長長的尾羽，棲息在盛開的桃花枝上；另一面則描繪了一隻棲息在岩石上的鳥，身旁鮮花圍繞。頸部和足部飾芭蕉葉紋。

品相：
狀況良好，有輕微磨損和製造不規則，大面積顯示有微小的劃痕，古銅綠色調地，仍顯琺瑯本色。 瓶身清漆塗層，應用於二十世紀，以保護琺瑯免受磨損和褪色。
