A LONGQUAN CELADON ‘ANBAXIAN’ MOUNTAIN-FORM BRUSHREST, MING DYNASTY
China, 1368-1644. Finely modeled in the form of a five-peak mountain range with sharp pointed tops descending from the center, crisply carved with several of the Eight Immortals’ attributes (anbaxian): one side with castanets, crutches, and double gourd and the other with a sword and fan, each tied with a ribbon. Covered overall in a pale sea-green glaze darkening in the recesses and thinning at the edges. The glaze stops evenly just above the foot, revealing the creamy-white ware, slightly burnt to orange in the firing.

: Very good condition with minor wear, traces of use and firing irregularities, the base with few tiny shallow chips and slightly smoothened areas.

The attributes of the eight Immortals
symbolize Daoism, transmutation, and happiness. Each of the symbols depicted on the present lot is the attribute of one of the Immortals, comprising the double gourd of Li Tieguai, containing all medicines; the fan of Zhongli Quan, resurrecting the dead; the sword of Lu Dongbin, ridding the world of all evil; and the castanets of Cao Guojiu, the patron saint of theater actors.

明代龍泉窯青釉暗八仙山形筆擱

中國，1368-1644 年。山形高低錯落有致，富有層次感，如文人畫中層巒淡遠的境界，暗刻暗八仙紋。釉色青瑩，凹陷處變暗，邊緣變薄。 釉均勻地停在足部上方，露出乳白色胎，在燒製過程中略呈橙色。
