A BRONZE ELLIPTICAL BOWL, EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY TO SPRING AND AUTUM PERIOD
China 7th-6th century BC. Finely cast in an oval shape, the deep bronze bowl has two ring handles on both of its elongated sides. It is decorated with a single band of stylized intercoiling dragons, neatly incised, above stylized cicada pendants.


Provenance:
Collection of William Rogers, Australia. From a private collection in Anchorage, Alaska, acquired from the above.

Condition:
Good condition, commensurate with age, with old wear. Signs of weathering and erosion, some casting flaws, small dents, losses, and corrosion. The superb, naturally grown chocolate-brown patina covers the vessel entirely and is accompanied by fine malachite and cuprite encrustations.
