款识：韩蕲王碑托舍亲黄孟超君（任之表兄之令姪）吉便带交遐庵姻丈。姪湖顿。去年寄上之新王氏镜收到否？又先室有墓志一本，拟求书。容缓纸寄上。
说明：信札书于梅景书屋红格笺纸。信中“任之表兄”即黄炎培，黄炎培是吴湖帆的姨表兄，在上海解放前夕力劝吴湖帆留下来，解放后还介绍吴湖帆的画作送给***主席，毛主席收到画后从自己稿费中拿出五百元做润笔费辗转付给吴湖帆。信中还提到“又有先室墓志一本，拟求书”可知此时潘静淑夫人（1892-1939）已逝。
作者简介：吴湖帆（1894-1968），名万、倩，字东庄，号倩庵、丑簃，江苏苏州人。西泠印社社员。精鉴别、填词。山水宗“四王”、董其昌，海上重要名家，亦为海上“三吴一冯”之一。
