黄釉作为一种以铁为呈色剂的低温釉色，早在唐三彩上就已出现。纯粹的黄釉器见于成化时期，弘治朝继承并发扬光大，呈色稳定，釉面光亮，较之成化的淡黄釉显得深厚，较之正德黄釉浅淡适中，遂成一代名品，代表着历史上低温黄釉的最高水平。因采用浇釉方法施釉，色彩淡而娇艳，如鸡油一般，故弘治黄釉也被称为“浇黄”或“娇黄”。本品即为此类黄釉名器，釉色深浅适中，恰到好处，后世极难仿制，久负盛名，成为黄釉瓷器的典范。
