丹泉石屬於黝簾石的一個變種，丹泉石是因為含有釩而產生如藍寶石般的亮麗藍色，丹泉石具有明顯的多向色性，在太陽光下會顯現出如藍寶石般的藍色而改放在日光燈下會略帶有紫色味，丹泉石從被發現至今不過短短地三、四十年，但其藍色的透明度高，且瑰麗光彩遠勝過藍寶石，再加上產量有限的眾多因素之下有水漲船高之勢，是一種值得特別注意的中高價寶石。
