Bronze with remains of lacquer gilding. Mounted to wooden base Thailand, Ayutthaya Period, 15th century This buddha head is well-cast with a serene expression and sensitively delineated lips. The nose is straight and slender, the heavy-lidded eyes are framed by arched eyebrows. Flanked by elongated earlobes with out-turned tips and surmounted by a flattened heart-shaped hairline of tight, swirled curls arranged over the ushnisha. Remains of lacquer gilding throughout.
