Bronze with remains of lacquer gilding. Mounted to wooden base Thailand, Ayutthaya Period, 17th century Buddha Sakyamuni is standing in Samabhanga pose with his right hand showing the Abhayamudra, the gesture of fearlessness, reassurance and safety. His left hand is stretched downwards near the hems of his garment. Buddha is wearing a Samghati robe with a belt around his hip and pendeloque ear rings as well as an ornate tiara with floral decoration and a stupa-like, conical-shaped usnisha. The face shows a fine meditative expression, with cast down eyes, a serene smile and elongated earlobes.
