Ceramic with brown glaze and phosphatic splashes China, Tang Dynasty (618 – 907) This vessel shows a body of ovoid form rising to a waisted neck and an everted rim, the shoulder set with a short spout opposite a double-strap handle extending from the rim to the base of the shoulder. The neck is flanked by double-strap lugs. The exterior and upper part of the inside dressed in a dark brown glaze, stopping well above the accentuated foot. The brown glaze is accented with bold milky white and blue splashes around the shoulder, handle and rim and also the inside. The bluish or yellowish-milky white 'phosphatic' splashes that decorate the dark brown-glazed wares of this type are applied after the initial glazing. Shape: Ewer shape with handle, lugs and spout.
