说明：笔筒楠木材质，方形，暗榫拼接，下承四足。四片楠木纹路各异，作天然山水，分别题刻“半山晓雾”、“孤峰烟雨”、“峭壁飞瀑”、“谷口归云”，落款曰：“右罗翁四景。辛未秋集于古天水治。易仲子。”
以天然纹理来比拟山川云雾的审美情趣，常见于云石的制作与收藏，此件笔筒可谓意趣相通，新意别出，比之云石，或更具质朴之美。
“罗翁”即罗翁山，又称罗公山，位于湖南省洪江市东北。“古天水治”即“古天水府”，就是今天的甘肃省天水市。
