3 Japanese Raku Pottery Tea Ceremony Tea Bowls (Chawan); the first in black with metallic iridescence and an indistinct square seal mark under the glaze inside the foot; the second in a black glaze with 2 spots of red and showing a white pottery base impressed with round mark; the third in a red glaze over cream colored clay, the unglazed base with a round mark and in an old Japanese storage box. The first with hairlines to mouth not clearly visible in black glaze, the second probably with hairlines not clearly visible in black glaze, the third with approximately 4 breaks restored and 1 hairline covered in old Japanese gold lacquer. Diameter of first 5 inches (12.7 cm.). PROVENANCE: Purchased at PB84, a subsidiary of Sotheby Parke Bernet in the early 1980's.
