明末清初之际惯于将沉香制成酒器，流行一时。据当时著名学者、诗人，“岭南三大家”之首的屈大均在其所著《广东新语》一书中称：“……沉速香杯，因香之大小方圆刳成，状千百出，以金银镶之。粤人颇尚奇器，以地之所少者相高。然大抵近山多用嬴杯，近海多用香杯，而东西洋之金银器不与焉。”此杯沉香木所雕，色如蒸栗，古韵盎然，将刻竹之法移用于刻木。外壁施以深浮雕作锦鸡木兰，寓意锦上添花。运刀古拙，刻工精湛，层次丰富，显出自然幽邃的艺术格调。沉香木雕作品于今存世量较少，雕刻精细者更为难寻，十分珍贵。附银胆
