A LAPIS LAZULI 'ANTELOPE' INTAGLIO SEAL Probably Sasanian, ancient Persia /Iran, c.3rd-6th cent. Semi-circular seal with engraved depiction of a horned animal, probably an antelope and eight dots to the left side. In beautiful color of indigo blue with some greyish inclusions and mica flakes. Central drilled hole for suspension on a necklace or around the wrist so that the seal is always available when needed. Condition: Very good condition commensurate with age. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
