A Ceylonese carved ebony workbox, 19th century, carved all-over in relief with floral and foliate motifs, the hinged lid decorated underneath with inlaid ivory and bone in the form of an elephant within geometric floral and foliate borders, enclosing a lift-out tray with fifteen compartments, 41cm wide 27cm deep 15.5cm high Condition report: 15cm split to right-hand side of top. Gum-filled 10cm split to left-hand side of top. Further splits, knocks and losses to top and sides. Rubbing and wear. Some inlay possibly replaced. Knocks, wear and repair throughout. Key present.
