A red-lacquered and ormolu-mounted pier cabinet, the Sienna marble top with canted corners over an acanthus cast frieze, the single panelled door set with a gilt metal roundel depicting Cupid and Psyche and flanked on each side by bronze and gilt-bronze figural pilasters emblematic of spring and summer, the sides decorated with chinoiserie designs, all on a stepped base, 92cm wide 45cm deep 93cm high Condition report: The top constructed in sections and laid on to a base slab of black slate or marble, evidence of modern glues visible under moulded edge possible evidence of repair. Overall very light wear consistent with age and use. Very slight expansion in joints of the carcass of the cabinet now visible through the lacquer. Complete with two keys. Good cosmetic order overall. While this may incorporate some period elements, we do not believe this to be a 19th-century piece. Unsigned. Not a pair.
