Pocket watch: museum rarity, unique 'Montre a Tact' in manner of Breguet, silver/gold, Bautte Freres Geneve No.71306, ca. 1850: Ca. Ø45mm, ca. 58g, unique silver case with gold rims, coined band with raised dots, spring lid with niello decoration, representation of a knight's armour, in addition the motto 'The lucky one does not count hours', back also with an elaborate niello decoration, 6 detailed representations with the corresponding Latin inscriptions for desire, dispute, power, luck, poverty and death, back also with the typical hand of a 'Montre a Tact', here in the shape of a sword, matching to the knight's armour on the face, dome signed and numbered, matching with the case number, thin bar movement, cylinder escapement, especially beautiful enamel dial with Roman numerals (minimal hairlines), extremely filigree steel hands, intact, museum rarity. Apart from Breguet, there were only very few manufacturers of these special pocket watches, where the time could also be read by hand. Definition Montre a Tact: These watches are equipped with a system invented by Breguet that allows the time to be read by hand. An arrow outside the case indicates the position of the hour hand of the watch. After 'feeling' the position of the arrow, the user locates himself by means of projections placed directly above the hours. Launched in 1799, the tact watch (sometimes called the 'blind man's watch') sometimes also features rich and varied decorations (enamel, pearls, diamonds). One of the first known Breguet Montre a Tact watches, no. 611, was acquired on 18 February 1800 by Mme Bonaparte, the Empress Joséphine. An identical example of the watch here, possibly the sister watch, is in the Girard-Perregaux Museum.
