This relief depicts two scenes from the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). In the large panel in the lower section we see the prodigal son, now destitute and far from home, herding swine and in the smaller upper panel we see him returning home penitent, being welcomed by his father. The high relief depiction is characterised by a strong sculptural effect and attention to detail.
