此件投壶为铜质，作六方形，直口长颈，扁腹出龙首和扉棱，下承高圈足，造型仿先秦青铜礼器。外壁上下满工雕菱格锦地，颈部浮雕螭龙，腹壁浮雕瑞兽图案，上方作八卦纹饰，圈足则饰网格纹。整器质色古雅，更具幽幽古韵。此式仿古铜投壶在明代是颇为流行的文玩雅器，著名者可参见《明宪宗行乐图》，画中明宪宗所用投壶亦为六方，与本品颇为相类。可知此形制的投壶在明代亦为颇受皇室欢迎的行乐用器。
