A PICCHVAI OF SHRI NATHJI AND SARAT PURNIMA, 18TH-19TH CENTURY
India, Rajasthan. Painted on silk, Shri Nathji at the center standing on a base and backed by a painted screen, flanked by two pundits and dancing gopis on either side, with laden trees behind them and gods and goddesses in celestial vimanas flying through the star-filled sky. Gopas and gopis at the lower left worshipping in front of a marble temple, Krishna teasing the gopis at lower right, white cows decorated with red handprints standing on the banks of a lotus-filled river at the bottom, 24 scenes of Shri Nathji on three sides, the entire painting with a floral border.
Provenance: From a noted Hungarian private collection, acquired from a private British collector.
Condition: Fair condition with extensive wear, soiling, losses, and tears to the edges.
