新石器时代的陶器彩绘和雕塑中，蛙的形象就已出现，而玉雕蛙最早则见于良渚文化。蛙象征多产，先民用以祈求生育繁衍。又蛙与农事有关，用以祈雨祷水。且契丹族以游牧经济为主，长期与动物为伍，因此辽代玉器中多以动物造型为主。此件玉蛙为青玉质，光泽柔和，带有沁色。蛙昂首前视，尖头圆目。后肢圆润饱满，前肢并拢，中有一圆孔，可供穿系，玉质色泽自然，颇富意趣。整器造型简约，素雅利落，呈现自然纯粹的玉色之美。此物造型小巧，线条流畅细腻，颇具收藏与把玩价值。
