A FINE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN 'BIRDS' BOWL, KANGXI PERIOD China, Kangxi period (1662-1722). The deep rounded sides rising from the short foot, finely painted in underglaze blue to the exterior to one side with several birds perched on an old gnarled tree next to craggy rockwork and to the other with many birds in flight above craggy rockwork and below scrolling clouds, the interior with a single bird perched on a flowering branch below scrolling clouds within a double circle, the recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark within a double circle. Condition: Overall good condition with minor wear and firing irregularities, the rim with some fritting, small chips, and old kintsugi repairs. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by the grandfather of Mr. Holzapfel before 1970 and has been in the Holzapfel family ever since.
