Description

An Egyptian inscribed quartzite fragment, 18th Dynasty (1479-1457 BC), in brown quartzite, bearing parts of the titles of Queen Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty and inscribed 'The daughter of Re, beloved of him... Given all life and stability... ', 17 x 15cm Provenance: Count Eric von Rosen of Rockelstad Castle, Stockholm, Sweden; thence by descent. These items were acquired by Count von Rosen, a prolific author, explorer and friend of Howard Carter during the 1920s, and were exhibited at Rockelstad at that time. TV TV It is possible this fragment is from the side of a throne that sat beneath a statue of the queen and, as such, is likely from Deir el-Bahari in Thebes. Other similar fragments from similar statues can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Condition report: See additional image of lot under raking light at our website.
