Attributed to Jan Jacobsz. van de Stoffe (Dutch, 1610-1682) A cavalry skirmish oil on panel 20.5 x 26cm Condition report: Oil on a small wooden panel formed from a single board in a good condition. The thin paint layers are slightly raised following the horizontal woodgrain. In some areas this has led to fine scale losses and abrasion. There is retouching across the surface but mainly found in the sky. There appears to be two campaigns of overpaint, one is brushy and applied in a wholesale manner while other areas are finely applied following the horizontal lines. The retouching has darkened over time. The varnish is semi-matte and even but slightly yellowed.
