Provenance: A London private collection Literature: Walter Koschatzky, Thomas Ender, 1982, p.43, pl.37, where dated c.1820. Thomas Ender (1793-1875) was an Austrian landscape painter and watercolourist. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and studied under Laurenz Janscha and later under Joseph Mossmer. Ender was awarded the Academy’s First Prize in landscape drawing and in 1817 he won the Great Painter’s Prize. He spent several years painting in Italy and in 1828 was made Court Painter to Archduke Johann (1782-1859). Condition report: Two vertical creases running down through the centre of the page, although these are very faint, and more visible from the reverse. Another crease close to right edge which is more visible. A light crease running around the edge of the page like a border, around 5mm from the edge of the paper. Some light yellowing and discolouration, including a dark brown area in the top left tree. The occasional small spot of foxing. A little light surface dirt. The gum arabic is cracking in the darker areas, showing tiny flecks of white paper through.
