This low relief depicts the scenes of the Crucifixion and the adoration of the Magi alongside each other, separated by arches. The smooth reverse of the piece is uncarved save for a slightly raised border which was used to hold in place a thin layer of wax so the ivory panel could be used as a writing tablet.
