A figure of the Virgin Mary standing on the crescent moon designed for a frontal viewpoint. She holds the naked Christ Child in Her right hand and a bunch of grapes in Her left. The swaying pose of the sculpture is accentuated by the drapery of the voluminous cloak, with its curving hemline and detailed interplay of angular and curving folds. There are indentations evident beside the shoulders and feet of the statue which indicate that it may have originally been set into an aureola. Nuremberg or Central Franconia have been suggested as possible origins of this work.
