款识：和朱子斋居感兴：余生于乱世，幸涉道津，晚读宋贤之书，始知考亭成就殊大！钻研赞叹愧莫能穷，屡以寒冬雨雪，闵乱尤时发匧陈书，喜睹斯什。爰和之以示门人、儿子云尔：微躯寓灵智，所至无深广。
说明：书写用纸为寄勤闲室编书纸，是黄侃先生的私人定制。并有《寄勤闲室日记》记载室内悬挂有老师章太炎书写的横幅“寄勤闲室”。示言中讲述了自己于群书中孜孜以求，反而愈感不足，感叹考亭（朱熹理学）的成就，就是不断钻研的动力。寓感而发，提醒晚辈：你们都有智慧，要努力钻研精深的学问。
