Jacques-Francois Delyen (French, 1684-1761) 'Aurora Triumphant'; 'Diana and Endymion' - allegories of night and day Aurora signed, inscribed and dated ‘peint par daiqre(?)/Jacque Delyen/peintre du Roy/1752’ l.l., Diana signed, inscribed and dated ‘peint par/Jacque Delyen/peinture/du Roi/1752’ l.r., oil on canvas 146.5 x 114cm (2) Condition report: Aurora Triumphant - the canvas has been lined and the picture is in plane with adequate support. There is a little fine craquelure in places and some raised paint around the inscription where the paint is beginning to become a little unstable, possible due to an impact to the reverse of the canvas. Under UV light, there is retouching apparent along the top and left nad edges due to peripheral frame rubbing. The are scattered touches of infilling in places due to flaking. There are also some larger patches, most significantly to the face and back of the lady beside the fountain, to the left hand leg of Aurora, to the winged putti lower left, where there appears to be a vertical repaired tear. This is just visible to the eye. There is a general wash over the grey cloud to the upper left corner. Diana - The canvas has been lined and there is craquelure in parts, the picture is in plane with adequate support. Under UV light, there is more extensive retouching and general washing over parts of the back ground than in the companion, with significant touches the figures. In both cases, any retouching has been well executed and the pictures are presented in a stable condition, cleaned, and ready to hang. Within reproduction gilt Louis XV style frames.
