Wilson Pottery began near Seguin, Texas before the Civil War. After the war was over, and slaves were free men, the potters at Wilson Potteries relocated to separate sites. This piece is most likely an early third site Wilson pottery piece, from the Durham (Wilson) site as it has an Albany slip glaze inside which they began using in 1870. This piece has been attributed to Isaac Suttles. The crock was purchased from an established Texas Hill Country Estate approximately 20 years ago, and has been displayed in my personal collection since then. The coloring in the glaze is amazing, and displays very well. The crock measures approximately 11" High 8" Wide. This would be an important addition to your Texas pottery collection.
