This antique 19th century lidded porcelain biscuit barrel has a tapered cylindrical body featuring a colorful blackberry motif accented in gilt. The decoration includes berries in various stages of ripeness which range in color from pink to blue along with thorny brown branches and large variegated leaves. The biscuit barrel is trimmed with a brass collar and swing handle. The piece is topped by a slightly domed brass lid finished with unusual etched foliate fern-like detail and a decorative finial knob at the center. The biscuit barrel is in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As an antique, the piece shows signs of age consisting of fine crazing to the glaze and a few scuffs to the exterior. The brass trim itself has an even patina along with a few spots of discoloration. As seen in the apanying photographs, these minor issues do not detract from the appearance of the piece and serve to enhance its authentic Victorian vibe. The piece stands 5.5" to the rim and is 9" tall when the handle is fully extended. The outside edge is 4.25" in diameter while the opening itself is 3.25" in diameter. The lid rests within the metal collar and is 3.5" in diameter. The foot is 5.25" in diameter and has been hand lettered with the number "1132" and another illegible mark, both of which have been executed in gilt paint. The biscuit barrel weighs in at 1lb 8oz. This charming porcelain biscuit barrel displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of antique biscuit barrels, or works equally well as a stand alone decorative accent.
