Description

The banded hedge pattern was popular all over Europe and derived ultimately from Japanese porcelains. Here, the pattern has some additional gilt highlights. The cloverleaf mark on this coffeepot was used by a number of factories, including Limbach, Kloster-Veilsdorf, Groszbreitenbach and Ilmenau, and it also may have been copied illegally by others. The reeded shape is a standard one, especially for the factories in and around Thuringia who copied Meissen. Unusually, though, it’s in near perfect condition except for a tiny flat sliver on the top edge of the spout, near where it joins the body. The decoration is still bright and appealing, a standout on display. It stands eleven inches tall.
